The In-Dependent Party I marvel at the current political climate (21 June 2007 - the longest day of the year). There are several issues that a causing concern; leading the way is the Iraq war. The latest hot topic though is, immigration. I smile at how political bias enters into most subjects; some say illegal immigrants while others utter undocumented workers. This brings me to the gist of this article; the latest trend seems to be that Republicans(REPs) and Democrats(DEMs) alike are changing their party affiliation to Independent due to the immigration issue. Well go for it, I assume a political Independent will vote for the candidate who best reflects their ideals and/or concerns. I personally don't see any difference as the DEMs and REPs do likewise. This is where the Idependent party (and all politics) falls short. If you are depending on yourself or a particular candidate for the best possible results in anything, you will be disappointed. Depending on flawed human thinking is the biggest problem we face. We need to be IN Christ and totally Dependent on Him. Those who are genuinely in Christ are the only ones who are true independents. Our flaw-prone decisions must give way to God's pure and perfect ways, which can be trusted. This frees us to vote for the candidate whose conduct, character, voting record and stump speechs are closest to that of the Lord Jesus'. His is the, only, perfect standard. This eliminates political affiliation, personal likeability, wealth and any other human factors that may be used to select a candidate. The key is to rely on God through prayer and His infalliable Word. The scriptures cover all of the issues as there is nothing new under the sun and fervent prayer changes things. 2008-9 appears to be a great time of transition and we are hurting as a nation. Recently I saw two prominent theologians on television that were asked "What do you look for in a candidate?" They gave the typical answer, in short; "A person who has my values." I understand that they are confident that they are right with God and their values are in line with His but: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. Isaiah 55:8 We must be very careful not to get too famaliar with God; He is separate from sinners. Again, true believers must make it perfectly clear, we vote for the candidate that agrees "closest" with the Lord Jesus Christ; by God's standards as revealed in the Holy Bible. Oh, to be IN Christ and totally DEPENDENT on Him. 21 June 2007 - the most time in one day, all year, to turn to God from idols. Trust Christ, time is running out
