Entitlements, Shopping Carts, Joe the Plummer and Bailouts

Mr. John and Mr. Jeff

Caught your show this morning (17 October 08) and decided to chime in on the segment about big corporations losing shopping carts. A gentlemen (we'll call him Mr. Jack) called in stating "It's okay because they have a big budget." To your credit, you admonished Jack by telling him that theft is not proper. With that said, in my opinion, you immediately went a little off track with the next caller (let's call him Jim) when he made the analogy that Jack's attitude aligns with Mr. Obama's redistribution of wealth plans. Additionally, I found it remarkable that you asked Jim who he voted for (assuming Mr. Bush) and didn't ask Jack (the "entitled" one) who he votes for; I'll leave that assumption to you. Here is a question for you: Have you ever voted for the perfect candidate?

With that said, here's an answer to the question you posed to Jack: "What makes you think anyone is entitled to steal from a big company just because they are having a hard time right now, why don't you just work harder"?
The answer is in your question; it is that since of entitlement! The same wrong notion that thinks it's proper to increase the taxes of those making $250,000, or more, just because some are having a hard time right now. You mentioned that only 10% of the population falls into this range. Well, do you want a President that is for all, or just 90% of the people? Mr. Obama comes across as a class warfare-warmonger.

Speaking of war, you went on to bash the policy concerning the Iraq war. You failed to recall the multiple ignored UN resolutions, countless killings, and treats issued by the former dictator; who, by the way, is exactly where he belongs. He likened himself to Nebuchadnezzar of old but, like many, he didn't know how the King's reign ended (Daniel 5:21).

As far as Joe the Plummer is concerned; he asked a question that deserved an honest answer. The honest answer was yes I will be raising your taxes but, there wasn't a sufficient justification for it therefore, the spin answer was given followed by character attacks. Will Joe's fame cause him trouble? Fear not; we all receive our just rewards, good or bad (Gal. 6:7). At this point, if you are still reading, I know what you are thinking***please, read-on.

By the way, if elected Mr. Obama will continue to promote the same "welfare spending" you accused Mr. Bush of in Iraq. The spending will shift to Pakistan, Afghanistan or somewhere in the (Mr. Obama's words) "sixty other countries where Al-Qa'ida resides". Sixty countries! This proves that it is just silly to think Mr. Hussein was able to keep his country free of Al-Qa'ida prior to our "invasion".

Therefore, your statement, I'd rather spend money here, on Americans, and not of Iraqis is naive and near-sighted (pun-intended). This was and is a necessary war; to be honest, I'm excited to see what the next President does. Either ticket has their work cut out for them.

But, I digress, back to taxes. We need to build a culture of inclusion and not exclusion. What in Mr. Obama's plan makes those who have succeeded feel apart of his America? Yes, the wealthy have always paid the most taxes and, for the most part, are okay with it as long as they continue to enjoy the American dream which is; working hard to become well-off, the boss, the CEO. You, I, or the government shouldn't retard the dream by a mandate of class warfare.

Finally, why work hard or pay taxes when Robin Hood is in the Whitehouse? Why not steal the shopping cart instead of working for it? The worst one could get is minor jail time or a bailout.

For Joe the Plummer,

Bill M., Graniteville, SC
