Jesus of Suburbia?

Consequences of Karma

In response to "Jesus of suburbia," in the Metro Spirit column 8 Feb 2007; and old saying comes to mind: "two wrongs don't make a right." The first wrong is to presume that everyone that claims to be "a Christian" is actually genuine. For the record, a true Christian is anyone who has genuinely repented of their personal sin and trusts Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.

This sheds light on the first error; Jesus Christ is not the Jesus of suburbia, He is the God of all who believe in His sacrificial death on their behalf.

The second error is one we all are guilty of; we attack the faults of others while not acknowledging our own.

"Please God, let it end here" is a pious statement if god is not influential in everything we say, think and do. Which God are you praying to?

We have a 16-year-old , five foot ten young lady whose only fault is "colorful cursing". "She does not smoke, nor drink nor do drugs, though she would never rat out someone who does."

Because of an outward focus, we could fail to see that none of the aforementioned things, including heritage, makes us any different from the "pious runner," that was insulting "during a Georgia cold snap" while the victim was walking her dog named Karma.

It was her cursing, repeated use of the derogatory phrase Jesus Karma! that got her into the situation. Encouraging her to own up to her failings, change the behavior, forgive her assailant and get on with life, would be refreshing.

As for the assailant, he actually demonstrated his true nature. He, being "religious," showed that he is either an ignorant or disobedient Christian; or a phony and not a Christian at all. Only God knows for sure.

Also, about your "fierce, beautiful daughter being reduced to a nose;" have faith that you are the chosen people you are. Encourage her to be proud of her Jewish heritage and to wear it with honor. The God you are pleading with, if your aren't being pious, knew what He was doing long before her conception.

Finally, the God of the "Old Testament" is the same God in the New Testament. No sin goes unpunished. Our parental flaw, in not training up a child in the way they should go, simply causes our sweet daughters and sons to receive just consequences for their actions; or maybe it's just KARMA!
