Saggy Pants Ordinance?
A trivial pursuit. This article was initiated by an Augusta Georgia ordinance being proposed that would outlaw saggy pants. On the surface this seems to be a resonable idea. The sight of young people walking the streets with their underware visable is not something the public should be subjected to but, the underlying problem cannot be solved by an enforced law. The fact is; we cannot legislate morality. With the said, at the same time we cannot condone immorality either. So, whats the solution? The solution is a change of heart. This change begins in the home by parents and guardians not allowing immoral activity in the home. The only thing this ordinance, if successful, will accomplish is to shift the immorality elsewhere as young people express the erred behavior in other ways or are yanked off the street and put them in prison. Wait a minute, the saggy pants culture originated in prisons. A foundation for personal dignity and unselfishness has to be instilled in our culture. That foundation can only be found in right relationship with God, in Christ Jesus. It's yet to be seen if this ordiance will enacted but I'm confident that if so, it will fail. It is just another, in long line, of secular trivial pursuits.
